Duke's Place - Australian Songs in Concert & Session with Margaret & Bob Fagan, Friday 14th August, 7.30-11.30pm

Duke's Place - Australian songs in concert & session with Margaret & Bob Fagan, once better known as that famous bush band, the Tempe Tipsters. Their strong blend of politically-edged traditional and contemporary songs combined with lyrical ballads and great choruses is guaranteed to lift your spirits. Their repertoire is firmly rooted in the folk tradition, with Margaret’s pure voice and Bob’s superb guitar playing combining to ensure their popularity both here and abroad.

And at Duke's Place they are delighted to be singing some songs that were first performed at BMC Singabouts in the 1950s -  not by them, they hasten to add!

On 16 February we lost probably the most important collector of Australian folk lore, and an important member of our Club. This article John Meredith, The Bush Music Club & The Australian Folk Song Revival (1950’s)  covers some of John's contributions to the collecting and preservation of our national culture. We hope it will help underline John's importance to this Club and all who care about our heritage. Mulga Wire, no. 144, April 2001.
